Reflection on first NYC Art Show: Pancakes and Booze
Last week, on October 3rd, I participated in my first NYC art show called Pancakes and Booze at The Brooklyn Monarch in Brooklyn, NY. Having previously showcased my work in Jersey, I had a sense of what to expect and the type of energy I’d encounter. However, this event was the most artist-packed venue I’ve been a part of—a true melting pot of creativity and diversity.
Once I settled in, I felt the vibrant atmosphere around me. The feedback on my work was overwhelmingly positive, which fueled my motivation to keep creating. I sold a few T-shirts and engaged in meaningful conversations with guests and fellow artists who are also pushing boundaries in their work.
As the night was winding down, a couple approached my booth, showing genuine interest in my pieces. They asked many thoughtful questions, and I enjoyed sharing the stories behind my work. After some reflection, they decided to purchase one of my larger pieces!
One moment that really resonated with me was when the woman from the couple firmly told me, “Don’t undersell yourself!” as I was doing my sales pitch. This conversation reinforced the idea that I am taking steps toward understanding my worth as an artist.
Overall, this experience has been invaluable, and I’m excited about the journey ahead!
