The Ali Progression

I’m currently working on a commissioned portrait that holds special meaning to me—it's a depiction of Muhammad Ali, an icon whose impact spans generations and will continue to do so for many more to come. Watching old fights and documentaries sparked my love for boxing at a young age, and the sport has remained a central part of my life ever since. I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

For many of my portrait works, I start with an explosion of abstract colors and shapes as the background. From there, I stencil the figure based on the reference photo, then gradually add darks and lights, building up shadows and gradients. This process brings depth to the portrait, shaping the final figure and giving it life.
